2010 UPDATE -  The rolling 3 year complaint rate at Planet Hyundai has only gotten worse in the 6 years I have run this web site.  When I first started the site in 2004 the 3 year tally was 34.  Despite multiple changes in General Managers over the years, the current 3 year complaint history is 49 as of 5/15/2010.  If the new Tamburro management team is truly committed to changing the way things are done at Planet Hyundai, we should see these numbers finally start to come down over time.

The Bureau processed a total of 49 complaint(s) about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period.

The 49 complaint(s) closed in the last 36 months was/were closed as:

  34 - Resolved
9 - Company resolved the complaint issues. The consumer acknowledged acceptance to the BBB.
25 - Company resolved the complaint issues. The consumer failed to acknowledged acceptance to the BBB.
  15 - Administratively Closed
12 - BBB determined the company made good faith and reasonable offer to resolve the issues, but the consumer did not accept the offer.
3 - BBB determined that despite the company's good faith effort to address complaint issues, the consumer remained dissatisfied.

I asked the BBB what "Administratively Closed" meant.  The answer - the issue was not resolved to the customers satisfaction, however the company decided it had done all it was willing to do .  So of all the complaints against Planet Hyundai in the last 3 years - 30% of them ended in the customer not being made right!  Talk about adding insult to injury! Makes you wonder how closing complaints this way can still allow a company to be in "Satisfactory" standing...

Note to consumer - make sure you check how many BBB complaints were "administratively closed" vs. resolved if you want a more accurate measure of how the company values its customers!

Interesting fact - In summer of 2004 the 36 month tally of disputes was 37.   1 year later the number had gone up to 43!  2008, up to 46. 2010, up to 49.
